Gentrification is WEIRD: Finding Wakanda in Portland: This presentation utilizes the example of the blockbuster “Black Panther” film of a Black society uninterrupted, to investigate Oregon history, policies, culture and tradition. Donovan presents research and statistics around exclusion laws, ownership policies, and examples of community-built movements and institutions inviting a critical analysis of our growing region and the tools for Black prosperity. 


PDXPLICIT: The Hidden Voices of Portland Hip Hop: Institutional forces have stifled the prosperity of a vibrant and growing Portland hip hop scene. In this interactive workshop, we explore the complex relationship between local government, and local hip hop over the past decade and arms participants with tools to help support and grow the scene, while showcasing some of the key music makers in the city today.
